Organizing Programs for Hispanic Heritage Month

The celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month brings diverse people and cultures together, which is the goal of the Cross-Cultural and Gender Center.

La Bienvenida is the kickstart event that the CCGC organizes for students to come and begin the celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month.

Students like Karina Dominguez are glad that events like these are back on campus.

“I’m super excited,” Dominguez says. “There is no better feeling than being on campus able to do things normally.”

The process for organizing events like these isn’t something many people think about. Deyanire Del Toro, coordinator for the Latino/a programs and services in the CCGC, says it is important that a university like Fresno State embraces and unifies all cultures and people.

“We take pride at Fresno State,” Del Toro said. “Being a diverse campus and I think a lot of what I get to do is collaborate with other groups to take a look at a lot of the intersections within the Latinx community and we want to make sure students feel represented in the programming that we have.”
