Greeks Give Back
Fresno State’s Delta Gamma sorority put on its philanthropy weekend event, Anchor Splash.
Over 400 Greek life members filled the Fresno State Aquatic Center on Saturday morning raising money for Delta Gamma’s foundation, Service for Sight. The organization helps those who are visually impaired.
The philanthropy weekend started off with a backyard barbecue at the sorority.
“A portion of what we raise goes toward Service for Sight and local organizations like Valley Center for the Blind, Guide Dogs for the Blind and also the Veterans Hospital,” said Delta Gamma member Lauryn Ray.
Anchor Splash is a mock swim meet where participating fraternities compete in different swimming events to earn points for their team. All in good fun, there was also a synchronized swimming portion where the fraternities competed for the best routine.
“As a senior, I am really going to miss just the environment of Anchor Splash,” said Delta Gamma president Sydney Marsoobian. “Like we all get very excited, and it’s my personal favorite event. I am just going to miss everything about it, and as a senior, I am really sad that this is my last one.”
After the fun in the sun events, everyone headed over to Greek Mall located on Millbrook Ave. to finish off the competition. To conclude the philanthropy events, one member from each fraternity participated in a pageant where they were quizzed on Service for Sight facts and got to show off their individual talent routines.
Sigma Chi Fraternity took home the championship trophy. These events help Delta Gamma raise money and awareness for Service for Sight.
