Vaccine Mandates Required for Children
About 28 million children between the ages of five and eleven live in America.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is considering a low dose of the COVID vaccine for distribution.
Some parents are experiencing conflicting emotions when it comes to the vaccinating of children.
“I don’t think it makes any sense to give kids the vaccine when they’re not at risk of the virus,” says Alex Hatch, mother of two.
Pediatricians encourage parents to discuss any hesitations. Dr. Ta with Kaiser says the FDA is doing its research.
“For right now we are still waiting for the FDA approval,” says Dr. Ta.
Dr. Ta says parents need to consider that children are not immune to COVID-19. While some parents are debating their options, others support the vaccination.
“I don’t know much about it, but if it’s a mandate, I’m pretty sure like the CDC and the other agencies would have done their homework. So, I will be supportive,” says Najir Khalal, the father of a young boy.
The CDC reports about 700 children have lost their lives during this pandemic. Many are still in intensive care units nationwide.
Places such as pediatric offices, schools, or pharmacies will administer the children’s vaccinations, making it easy and accessible for parents. With holiday events around the corner, parents can help their communities support safety measures.
