Covid-19 testing available on campus
This Thanksgiving, many students are looking forward to their first family gathering in more than a year.
“Having the one time out of the year, you know, the one time we call come together, and we’re able to enjoy each other’s company,” said Fresno State student Jasmine Mendoza.
“This Thanksgiving, I’m actually going up to my family’s property,” said Emily Rhea, a student at Fresno State.
“Probably, it’s Thanksgiving, it’s bound to happen, everybody usually congregates in one area,” said Fresno State student Xavier Aguilera.
Students are reminded that the end is not here and are encouraged to continue to be safe and protect their community against COVID-19.
One way is by getting a COVID-19 test when feeling symptoms of COVID.
“Testing at the satellite student union for the campus community. So students staff and faculty is free of charge. It is a saliva-based PCR test,” said director of wellness services, Alicia Nelson.
If you want to get tested, remember these three things: No eating or drinking one hour before your test. Don’t forget to bring your Fresno State ID card. And, remember to wear a face mask.
The testing is quick and can be done within minutes. You simply complete the testing consent, grab a vial, and spit in it. Once you’re done, hand the tube to a wellness assistant at check out.
According to Fresno State’s COVID-19 dashboard, from October 13 to November 5, Fresno State has administered 1,336 COVID tests. 284 of tests came back positive. That’s a positivity rate of 1.7% since the beginning of the semester.
Testing will continue to be available through the end of the fall semester, and most results take 24-48 hours.
