TikTok challenge destroying schools

A challenge on popular social media platform TikTok is encouraging students to destroy school bathrooms. The “devious lick” challenge became popular in early September but is still a problem for schools months later.

One of the affected schools is Freedom Elementary, a new school in Lemoore, Calif. that just opened this year.

“We’re a brand-new school, so when the kids started just a few weeks ago our school bathrooms were brand new. Everything in them was shiny and new,” Principal Tracy Cassina explained. In the short time that the school has been open, multiple bathrooms have been vandalized.

With destroyed property comes the need for funds to replace it. For some school districts, this is not easy to come by.

TikTok has since deleted the ‘Devious Lick’ hashtag in attempt to limit the attention the trend has received on the platform, however the lasting effects will plague schools until they are able to repair the damages.
