Grocery prices rise amidst ongoing inflation
With record inflation driving up prices, grocery shopping is becoming even more of a mindful process in budgeting and planning for those living paycheck to paycheck or with extra mouths to feed. Angel Godinez, a dairy worker at Food Maxx, notices the steady increase in the prices of staple goods like the price of eggs. “At the start of, for example, August, it was like $9 for a 60 count. Now it’s like 13,” Godinez said. This price increase is coupled with ongoing supply chain issues affecting his store’s ability to keep shelves stocked. Godinez offers this advice to shoppers looking to save and stock up on their next grocery trip: “Don’t buy whole milk because that’s usually like a dollar to $2 more than 2%. I’ll say get 2% and buy in bulk and buy name brand of the grocery store.”
Some shoppers stick to a strict budget using programs like Excel and reviewing their budget after each payday. Savvy shopper Elizabeth Hartwell from Sunnyvale allocates the necessary funds for bills such as rent, credit cards, and utilities. She saves the rest for her grocery budget.
“Within the grocery budget, I will typically try and plan out my meals for the week, knowing that if I cook a meal on Monday, it’ll usually last me through lunch and dinner on Tuesday,” Hartwell said.
Brittany Polk, a mom of two in Hayward, similarly purchases in bulk when doing the meal-planning for her family. Despite not eating much meat herself, she finds a way to make sure everyone is happily eating.
“Because my kids do like meat. I know a little goes a long way, and I feel like you can make so many meals with meat,” Polk says. “You could add it to just about anything or even if you are vegan, even the vegan meat, you could just literally make so much out of that.”
Some of her go-to meals to make meat last include pasta and sandwiches.
A lot of work went into this package, take a look at how these videos are put together as you can see in this screenshot of an Adobe Premiere Pro workspace here below:
