Mobile apps point to lowest gas prices

Skyrocketing oil prices are causing an increase in gas prices. Before the war in Ukraine, regular unleaded gas was around $3 a gallon in Fresno. Now it is close to $6.

Consumers are feeling the difference in their wallets. Before the war, you might pay $30 to $40 to fill an average tank. Now it’s double that. California has the highest price of gas compared to other parts of the US.

Economics professor Antonio Avalos says California is experiencing some of the highest prices in the nation.

“We need to give refineries time to get back to their 100%,” Avalos said.

Gov. Gavin Newsom is trying to pass a $400 rebate for car owners in California to help offer some relief. Lawmakers are in the process of debating his proposal. Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie Norris said the assembly is “trying to pass it this spring season.”

Many believe the price of gas will slowly start to decrease, but you might not see a big change right away.

For now, if you are trying to find the cheapest gas in your area, try an app such as gasbuddy.com that shows you where the lowest prices are.
