ENGINEERING FALL FESTIVAL
The Lyles College of Engineering is hosting its second annual Engineering Fall Festival on Nov. 10. The 11 engineering organizations and clubs created this event including the Honor Societies, the Society of Asian Scientist Engineers, the Society of Hispanics Professional Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers and more.
This event aims to provide a sense of community within the Lyles College of Engineering and bring new first-year students together. It is a way for students to engage throughout the semester in their chosen department. In the first year or semester, many students say engineering is too hard and are looking to change their major.
“Yeah, they’re demanding majors,” said Herman R. Maldonado, the director of pathways at Lyles College of Engineering. “They require a lot of time. There’s a lot of time commitment, but it’s like every other discipline at the university and everything else that people do in life. You know, you begin with foundational levels and build up your knowledge.”
The Engineering Fall Festival is to help students feel welcome and share useful information. Also, to become part of one of the engineering organizations or clubs. The event is Nov. 10 at the Engineering east patio from 4 to 7 p.m. Students can enjoy games, raffles, pan dulce and much more.
“We’ll have popcorn, all types of activities to make sure that it’s fun and inviting and welcoming,” said Maldonado. “So, that students can get to know one another and, unwind a little bit from all the demanding majors that they’re pursuing here in the Lyles College of Engineering.”
