Fresno’s new city animal shelter, Fresno Humane Animal Services

If you hear the sound of dogs barking, that means you’re in the right place. Fresno Humane Animal Services is the city shelter in Fresno, and it recently opened in July.

Meet Rogue, one of 350 dogs at the city shelter. This lovable, fun two-year-old dog is ready for adoption like many of her furry friends.

Many of the animals are either strays or lost dogs that have been taken in by the shelter.

“We’re an intake facility of all stray animals within the city limits of Fresno, so it gives them a safe place to come and so their owners can find them and reclaim them and take them home,” said Susie Martino, behavior coordinator.

Martino and her team bring out every dog in the kennels daily for playgroup. This allows the staff to get to know each dog and be able to place them in the appropriate home.

Dogs come in all different sizes, colors, and personalities.

Colleen Cabral, foster dog coordinator, said it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to interact with all of the dogs in the shelter.

Several dogs greet those who walk by their kennels with looks and barks of attention.

“It’s really hard not to go into each individual kennel and pet every single dog that you walk by, especially when they’re just calling your name with their eyes or with just their aura. I really don’t know how to explain it,” Cabral said.
