Campus Tree Planting
Arbor day may be in the spring, but the best time to plant trees is actually in the fall.
This morning, more than 60 Fresno State students and other volunteers took advantage of the seasonal conditions to help Tree Fresno plant dozens of trees.
In just over one hour, the volunteers planted 76 crape myrtle saplings on the northeast corner of campus along Chestnut Avenue.
Ruby Pereida, a Fresno State Sociology student, helped plant two of those trees.
“I came out with some friends,” Pereida said. “We had fun while helping the environment, so that was pretty cool.”
In addition to helping regional air quality, the trees will provide an abundance of shade, growing over two feet annually; and while they may not be native to the valley, they are drought-tolerant.
You can find full-grown examples on campus outside the Wahlberg Recital Hall.
