Amaya West Breaks 1k-Point Mark in Collegiate Career.
Fresno State’s senior guard/forward Amaya West broke the 1,000-point mark in her collegiate career. West is a Nevada transfer who finished her senior season at Fresno State. Scoring is one of the most electric aspects in the game of basketball. When it comes to getting buckets, it’s second nature for West.
West is passionate about the game of basketball. She said she fell in love with the sport by growing up watching two Hall of Fame players.
“When I was really young watching Diana Taurasi, Steve Nash,” West said. “I am from Arizona so watching them, going to see their games all the time. I just loved watching them play.”
West has the talent to score in various ways, which is one of the reasons why it’s so difficult to guard her. However, every hooper has their favorite spot to score from.
“In the paint, I like my little turnaround jumper so that’s probably my favorite shot. Hitting a three feels really good. I am not much of a shooter but when I make them they feel really good,” said West.
Being a certified bucket is not all that West brings to the table. She has a complete game in passing, defense, and leadership. Her all-around game makes her a formidable opponent and a helluva teammate, says Imani Lacy, senior forward.
“I feel like Amaya has a lot of experience from Nevada and her having that leadership role there and her IQ and basketball knowledge is very helpful [for] me,” said Lacy.
Lacy spent two years with West at the University of Nevada. When West was in the transfer portal, Lacy played a massive role in bringing West to Freno State. The two of them have been friends since their first year at Nevada.
“I love her. I’m happy I am ending it the way I want to end it and with her by my side,” said Lacy.
West hitting the 1,000-point mark in her career is a moment she will forever cherish. She will be remembered as an all-around talent on and off the court.
