Fresno State’s Equipment Checkout Room Offers More Than Equipment
When Cyrel Mallory started as equipment manager for the Fresno State Media, Communications and Journalism department a year ago, he saw students struggling to learn how to use the cameras and Adobe editing software. So he started a tutoring service.
If you are completely lost and are experiencing technical issues, Mallory is just the man you want to see.
“We offer tutoring in Adobe Premiere Pro and any technical support,” said Mallory. “So me and the paid staff, you can reserve us online at MCJcheckout.com. Click on the room reservation tab. You can then either reserve a room or reserve a tutor.”
It’s not a one-man show in the equipment room. Mallory has student interns, like Sabreena Van Bebber, who he can count on to help around the office.
“Whenever students are coming in to rent out items, we have to check them in, and we have to double-check and make sure once they return them, everything is how it was when they left with it,” said Van Bebber.
For another tutoring assistance option, students can go to the DISCOVERe hub, located on the first floor of the Fresno State Library. People like Kathy Franco specialize in assisting students.
“We accept walk-ins,” said Franco. “You can come up to us if you have a question even if it’s so minor or you think it’s dumb, just ask us and we’ll tell you if we could help you out, or we could direct you to the appropriate person.
If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask. Tutors are here on campus for students’ convenience. For more information on MCJ Tutor Sessions, click here. The MCJ equipment room is located in the Speech Arts Building in room 179. For more information on DISCOVERe, call (559)278-1812.
