Behind The Scenes of the Fresno State Athletics Nutrition Department
Have you ever wondered how important nutrition is in athletic performance?
“Nutrition is important to athletes because it helps with their performance and their everyday life. So as long as they’re able to get in good nutrients and good food throughout the day, so they not only perform in the classroom but in their sport, as well,” said Maryssa Kamimoto, director of sports nutrition at Fresno State.
Bulldog student-athletes are offered snacks and meals at different locations on campus.
They can choose from various options of protein and carbohydrates.
There are two main locations where athletes can grab a snack–the Meyers Family Sports Medicine Center and the new Morse Wittwer Sports Performance Center.
“I really like that we have a new nutrition lounge over there because it’s way easier for us to really quickly grab a snack before or after our lift, class or practice, or anything like that,” said student-athlete Silvia Alessio.
The Fresno State Athletics Nutrition Department is always looking for interns.
