Victor E IV Officially Named University Mascot
The newest university mascot was officially welcomed to his role during the “Passing of the Collar” ceremony from Victor E Bulldog III to Victor E Bulldog IV on Sunday.
Both Bulldogs were down on Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett stadium at the baseball game vs. San Diego State.
Victor E Bulldog III has been shadowing the previous mascot since October, and Sunday marked the transition from trainee, to full-time employee.
“The first time I met Victor … Uh, talk about love… it was the greatest moment ever, he was just paying attention to me and loving me, that’s when I knew I was truly a Bulldog,” said Terry Tumey, director of Fresno State Athletics.
The collar passed from one bulldog to another is a one-of-a-kind, constructed with small plates, each with the names of previous mascots on them.
Victor E Bulldog III enters retirement after 8 years of service and was applauded by a packed crowd of appreciative fans.
“Being Fresno State’s live mascot has been his whole job. He was debuted at two months old and now he is eight. So this is all he really knows, and we wanted to show our thanks, especially from the community because he has given his whole life to this live mascot role,” said Caroline Nolan, live mascot program coordinator.
