Student athlete rides horses and serves the community
A student athlete’s life consists of many hours dedicated not only to the sport but also to the classroom. In her free time, equestrian Yasi Roman enjoys giving back..
“I think that there’s a lot more of a community here,” said Roman. “People want to be with each other. People want to help each other back where I’m from. It’s not exactly the same.”
Fresno State athletics is loved by the community that Roman enjoys being a part of.
“If you’re wearing your bulldog gear, people are going to speak to you,” said director of student-athlete development, Carlie Corrigan. “They are going to ask you if you’re an athlete. They want you to feel at home.”
Community service is a way for Roman to escape her daily lifestyle for a bit. The time she uses to give back is valuable and why Fresno State’s fans are so loyal.
“They ultimately take care of these horses probably close to 100%,” said Sierra Swaffar, the assistant jumping seat coach. Roman basically has a child but in animal form.
