Swimming and Diving Team Make a Splash at Fundraising Luau
The Fresno State Swimming and Diving Team held their annual fundraising luau at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
The event was yet another success, as the team raised over $15,000 dollars for extra expenses that are not covered by the athletics department.
“We use it to buy equipment, extra things to go on our training trip last year,” said head coach Jeanne Fleck. “We’re really trying to start raising money for a new locker room, for some things in the locker room, lockers and things like that. So it’s really, really important.”
The fundraiser changes themes from time to time but has been a luau for the last two years.
“It’s entertainment and everyone likes the luau. It’s fun,” Fleck said.
The event features a performance by Polynesian dancers as well as the opportunity to show off your moves.
“We did the luau because we could get the Polynesian dancers and we like to have them here,” Fleck added.
The team helped raise the funds through baskets available for online auction, their own baked goods as well as a team dinner at Fleck’s house, the latter selling for $3000 this year.
“I created a basket, it was a dine-at-home or go-out-for-dinner basket. I got different local restaurants to donate gift cards,” said Marie Keith, Sammie Keith’s mom.
