Fresno’s own pro fighter
Three nationalities: American, Mexican, and Salvadoran. But one city. Fresno, California is where undefeated professional boxer Marc Castro calls home.
The fighting pride of the valley, many say. Castro doesn’t shy away from saying he was born and raised in this city.
He may be a professional boxer, but Castro has always taken his education as seriously as his sport. He was his high school valedictorian, and he did two years at Fresno State before pausing his degree.
A lot of things in life are important for Castro but mainly those in his corner.
“My family is the reason I am where I am today,” Castro said. “They believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.”
Everyone has a why. His why is not only his family but also those kids who look up to him.
“He’s a good son,” said his father Tony Castro. “I’m proud, you know. Everything worked out, but beyond that, a good human being. Humble, ‘humilde,’ you know. Give back to the kids.”
Whatever is next for Castro he knows who he can count on and why he does what he does.
