Graduates Giving Their Advice
Fresno State Focus asked Spring 2023 graduates on campus for advice for incoming students and what they like about Fresno State.
“My favorite part about Fresno State is the community,” said Emma Escandon, a computer science major. “The Central Valley comes together here at Fresno State. For example, at football games it is a whole event. The whole Central Valley comes to support and brings a sense of togetherness.”
“My best piece of advice is to get involved,” said liberal studies major Kayla Ferreira. “There is a ton of great opportunities on campus- community service, clubs and organizations, lots of great stuff, and it’s also really helpful to explore your major further and make sure that it’s something you really want to do.”
“My favorite thing about Fresno State is definitely the library,” said Cesar Hernandez, a graphic design major.” It is really great. It is the nicest one I have been in.”
“Definitely do not procrastinate your homework and try not to drop classes if you can.,” said Matthew Reyes, a social work major. “Always have good communication with your teachers and professors and if you need help go to a tutorial and do not be afraid to ask your professors.”
“I have all of these thank-you cards for my professors,” said Jia Chung, a political science major. “Definitely be friends with your professors. Do not get on their bad side. Also, my favorite place to study on campus is the Student Union because they have little individual cubicles.”
“Stay focused on what you have to do, but make sure to have fun,” said civil engineering major Xavier Riviera.” Join clubs or any types of groups or extracurricular activities because it will help you develop better friendships and social skills.”
“My best recommendation to you would be to do your homework before you do other things,” said music education major Lilliana Brewer. “Do it in little bits at a time as they tell you to in the first place, but it actually helps.”
“My favorite thing is probably the trees,” said Damien Padilla, a plant science major. “There is a really pretty live oak tree by the Health Center and really beautiful Ginkgo trees.”
“I know that throughout my course of high school and even college, I procrastinated a lot and it led to a lot of failures, missing assignments and stuff like that, also not being able to make things up,” said Cameron Opszentkoski, a psychology major.
“Take it easy. Be with friends,” said Bruce Vang, a business finance major. “Find out who you are, and know what you want to do in life. By doing that, never miss a moment with your mom, dad or your loved ones.”
You can catch all of these graduates at the commencement ceremony at the Save Mart Center from May 19 to 21.
