Track star Jordyn Bryant is breaking records
The Fresno State Track and Field Team is having an amazing season, especially the throwers. Jordyn Bryant, a fifth-year senior, is one of the leaders on the team. At one point this season, the Fresno State throwers were the only women’s program to be in the top 20 in the nation for discus, shot put, javelin, and hammer throw.
Bryant fell back in love with the sport when she transferred to Fresno State.
“I would say I fell in love with the sport with having a coach that has faith in you,” said Bryant. “Because when someone pushes that faith in you, you get to see the bigger picture in yourself as well and just want to continue to be great.”
Bryant transferred from San Diego in the fall of 2022. That is when she met her teammate, Cierra Jackson. Although they are on the same team, they are each other’s competition. But off the field they are always friends.
“At first, I thought she was a little intimidating, but she turned out to be a nice person,” said Jackson. “I love to laugh with her a lot. She is very outgoing and very energetic. She’s kind of like a teddy bear. She’s sort of like my second mom or like my older sister. She’s always looking out for me.”
Teammates are not the only ones who notice Bryant’s character and integrity.
“She has such a big heart,” said Track and Field Coach Joe Riccio. “She brings a lot of actual joy, and she’s very caring and passionate.”
Bryant is looking forward to the Mountain West Conference Championship this weekend and fully plans to qualify for regionals where the top 48 athletes in the west coast compete against one another. Exciting times for Jordyn Bryant and her fellow Bulldogs.
