CSU Tuition Increase
The CSU Board of Trustees approved a 6% tuition increase over the next five years. This means that by the fall of 2028, tuition will increase by nearly $2,000.
This approval came with a lot of opposition from students and staff.
“It’s for the entire CSU system, all 23 campuses including Fresno State University,” said ASI Senator Marco Florez. It’s $342 per semester increase.
The cost of tuition has gone up only once in the past 12 years. Kelly Russell from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships says that 65% of Fresno State students rely on grants to help pay for their tuition. Russell says students who receive federal or state grants should not experience significant change.
“Their tuition is paid by a Cal Grant award, a State University grant, maybe somebody is receiving the Cal Vet fee waiver, that kind of thing. So as tuition goes up in the next few years, so do those awards,” said Russell.
Russell encourages all students to continue to apply for financial aid because you never know what will be awarded.
There have been many changes to the Federal Student Aid Application including a completely new layout. The application will open in December instead of on October 1.
