The Art of Winemaking

In the Central Valley, agriculture is a big thing, and alongside that comes wine. There are 17 wineries in and around Fresno County, but not many know the extensive and detailed process that goes into making wine.

Grapes from the vineyard are run through a machine called the press and then thrown into bins to begin the fermentation process. The fermentation process takes about four days to two weeks to complete.

Then the grapes go into tanks after they’re pressed and fermented.

While the fermentation process isn’t that long, to be able to make a bottle or batch takes a little longer. A white wine typically takes about six months to complete, while a red wine takes anywhere from three to four years.

While a lot of science and hard work goes into this art, the taste makes it well worth it in the end.
