YOU ARE NOT ALONE: STUDENTS TALK STRESS MANAGEMENT
Many students at Fresno State juggle a busy workload while managing their stress.
“It is very stressful,” says Fresno State ag-comm student James Sepeda.
Aside from his responsibilities as a student, Sepeda writes for The Collegian and sells lettuce seeds to farmers for a living.
He has advice for students who are trying to be successful in their school work and to keep a good mental health profile when challenges hit.
“Find something that you enjoy doing by yourself,” Sepeda says.
For him that’s meditation in nature, working out, and coloring. He says this can look different for everybody. He lists singing or playing a musical instrument as other options to relieve stress.
Fresno State students have the option to talk through what is on their minds with health professionals. Campus resources are available such as Let’s Talk and After Hours Therapy.
If students need help academically, the Student Learning Center is located in the basement of the library where there is free tutoring.
“You’re doing great by pursuing this degree to begin with so keep on pushing,” says student tutor Daniel Hidalgo.
Fresno State student, Kaylani Thongdammany says she is grateful for her friendships which have helped her the most.
“Just hanging out with them, they can take your mind off things. They can act as, you know, a pillar of support,” Thongdammany says.
Her favorite part about her school day is meeting up with her friend Emma Vargas in between classes and getting a good laugh.
