Friant Road considered one of the most dangerous

Red-light runners and car crashes have been on the rise in Fresno. The Fresno Bee recently reported that Fresno is home to the worst drivers in California. One intersection, Friant and Shepherd, is very dangerous and is a hotspot for car crashes and accidents.

Last April, Amaya Chenot, 22, lost her life at this intersection. According to police reports, a tow truck driver ran a red light and collided with Chenot’s vehicle as she was returning home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dan Wells, co-owner of the Friant Roulette YouTube channel, says he believes Fresno can make intersections like Friant and Shepherd safer for the community.

“Our suggestion is to change it like we did at Palm and Nees. There’s a flashing yellow light for those people, knowing that there can still be traffic coming.”

The City of Fresno lowered the speed limit in that area from 50 to 45 miles per hour in an attempt to slow drivers down. Wells believes that lowering the speed limit and increasing awareness can lead to fewer crashes here in the future.

“We think we may have contributed to helping slow down these accidents that are taking place,” says Wells.
