Students can soon vote for their next ASI president
The ASI presidential election is currently underway. Fresno State students Jaden Baker and Faith Van Hoven have been campaigning for ASI president.
Both candidates have been promoting their thoughts and ideas for how they would work in the role.
“We have a varying degree of students at Fresno State and so I think when we’re looking at those students, we should look at overarching themes,” Van Hoven said.
“I don’t want this position for the power that it yields,” Baker said. “I’ve told you my five key pillars and all five of those I plan on accomplishing those points regardless of the presidency. However, accomplishing them on a much wider scale with the influence of being president.
These founding pillars are a familiar themes in this candidacy. Baker presented five pillars as a foundation for his run.
Van Hoven similarly showed her three founding pillars.
A difference between the two is the amount of time they’ve spent on campus, with Baker a first-year and Van Hoven a third-year student.
“That’s, I think, the biggest difference is I have that understanding because I’m currently in ASI of what my limitations are and I think that makes me a better leader,” Van Hoven said.
Baker said it’s not about how long you’ve been at Fresno State; it’s about how you’ve spent the time on campus.
“I’ve been involved; I’ve been in these rooms,” Baker said. “I have the experience necessary because I’ve spent my time wisely here on this campus.”
Voting ends on March 21. If you haven’t voted yet, you can find the ballot in your student email.
