WOMEN’S SPOTLIGHT: EMILIA REYES
You may see this building right next to Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno.
This building offers many opportunities to the people in Fresno County.
“Fresno EOC is a social justice agency that was created to fight and end poverty. So we provide a way of different services to help our families and lift them out of poverty.”
Since 2020, Reyes has lead the agency forward with innovative solutions focused on ending poverty.
She brings approximately 25 years of experience of serving children and families.
“After I graduated from high school, I went to college and got a degree on economics and business management. After I graduated, I came back to central valley and started working on nonprofit sector. I also took care of the finances and I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the community and not necessarily make someone else a profit.”
It was a journey to get where she is at.
“Both of my parents, my mother and my father were migrant farm workers and I saw them struggle for, not necessary for themselves, but for their families, to make sure their kids have an opportunity to do better. So, the way I was able to get through that is my education.”
Once Reyes got everything that she needed, she came back home with a purpose that she never know.
“Now more than ever, I have this passion and commitment to serve my community and provide my resources to help them succeed.”
Reyes plans on continuing to help people who are in the poverty.
