A behind-the-scenes look at the Focus Production Crew
You see Fresno State Focus live on your screen every Monday and Wednesday.
The students in the Fresno State Focus crew class are the ones who are behind the camera making everything happen.
“This is a class where MCJ students get a chance to learn how to run a live newscast behind the scenes,” said Natalie Nigg, broadcast journalism instructor.
The class, known as MCJ 123, offers a variety of hands-on experience including running the teleprompter, audio operator, graphics operator, technical director and director.
“I really like the back-end production stuff with broadcast, and this is absolutely a valuable experience in that regard. So yeah, that is massive for my future career,” said Spencer Beair, a broadcast journalism major.
This is much more than a just class.
“I really enjoyed doing it,” said Lizbeth Andres, a broadcast journalism major. “Honestly, doing crew was the whole reason why I joined MCJ because I really wanted to join the production side and get the opportunity to just get my hands dirty, and getting my hands on the camera is so much fun.”
Literally anyone can join this class.
“My class, MCJ 123, is open to all students. You don’t need to be an MCJ major. It is not a requirement class, but it is a fun class,” said Nigg.
