WEB STORY INCOMPLETE Lassoing The Cedar Cowboy
Students at Fresno State have been hearing about the Cedar Cowboy around campus for almost a year now. Many believed he might be a myth made up by fellow classmates.
Andrea Rosales, a psychology major, says she has seen him around campus but doesn’t know much about him.
“I see him a lot, especially when I come to school, but I’ve always been confused as to if he attends Fresno State or who he is,” Rosales said.
If you find him on Cedar, you’ll learn that the Cedar Cowboy is a student, just not at Fresno State. His name is Chris Ambris, 16, and he’s a student at Hoover High School.
Most days after school, Chris heads down to the corner of Cedar and Shaw with his country music-playing boom box and he says hi to anyone willing to talk to him, whether they’re in a car or just walking down the street.
Chris says that he started dressing in cowboy garb because he admired his stepdad and wanted to be like him.
“I’ve just got a love for music, so I wanted to have fun and come out and just do my thing and share my music with people,” Chris said.
He says that whenever people walk by, they usually start asking questions about what he does. Chris has made friends with multiple fraternity and sorority members on campus.
He says his parents are fine with him heading down to the intersection as long he stays safe.
Chris plans to continue going to the corner of Cedar and Shaw until he gets into college or finds something else that keeps him busy. He said he plans on attending Fresno State.
You can catch Chris most days after school, and he’s always ready to have a conversation.
