ChatGPT Takes Over Classrooms

The GPT in ChatGPT stands for generative pre-trained transformer. This is an AI chatbot that uses algorithms to evaluate questions and generate explanations.

The Chatbot, which has it’s pros and cons, is becoming more popular at colleges.

According to the National Library of Medicine, a study conducted with 1,223 undergraduate and graduate students showed that approximately 30% of college students used ChatGPT for schoolwork during the past academic year.

“I would say ChatGPT Could be either good or bad,” says assistant professor Hanaya Oya. “It could give a negative impact or it could have a positive impact. Either way, it’s up to you how you use the tool, because ChatGPT is just a tool.”

Some students use it to help with their studies, and it can be much faster.

“I don’t think it’s a necessity,” says nursing major Morgan Durant. “More of a supplement like it really speeds up the research process, especially, you know, if you’re in nursing and you do care plans and stuff.”

ChatGPT is as easy as searching on Google and typing in your question.

There is cheating that can happen when using it, and this causes students to not do their work.

“Some younger generations could use ChatGPT for their assignments, you know, writing essays, things like that, that is actually, you know, it’s depriving the opportunity to learn by themselves,” says Oya.
