Students feeling the pressure preparing for finals

The Fresno State fall semester ends on Dec. 19, and students are feeling the pressure of upcoming finals.

Preparing for exams and remembering all the material they learned throughout the semester can be challenging..

“I like to prepare ahead of time so that I know if I’m going to be working for a long period. I make sure to cut out some time to help me study,” said Sarah Hernandez, a mass communication and journalism major.

Some other great studying tips include getting proper rest and making sure to manage time wisely by taking breaks in between studying.

“Typically at the end of the month or beginning of the month I have a little journal where I’ll manually create my own calendar, and I’ll label each and every week and each and every subject,” said Mica Lao, a history major.

If you have trouble keeping your notes neat and clear, organize them by topics or concepts. Use colors, diagrams, or mind maps to make them visually easier to understand.

When it gets closer to taking final exams, students may experience an increase in anxiety and depression when they are trying to prepare.

The Student Health and Counseling Center experiences an increase in visits during finals.

“A lot of times we see it manifest with lack of sleeping because of a lot of anxiety and again that is definitely how our anxiety manifests or they’ll start having panic or things along those lines,” said Etisha Wilbon, director of counseling and psychological services.

Etisha Wilbon says more students visit the Counseling Center during final exams.

Fresno State students spend hours studying, often balancing part-time jobs, family responsibilities, and personal stress, all while pushing through fatigue to prepare for the pressure of final exams.

As the semester wraps up, students are advised to stay up-to-date on when their final exams will take place.
