Zaon Collins returns to the court after betting scandal
FRESNO, Calif – Fresno State men’s basketball guard Zaon Collins returned to the court Saturday after the NCAA cleared him to play amid sports betting allegations.
Collins missed one game against Air Force on Feb. 22. Minutes before that game, ESPN broke the story of three Fresno State men’s basketball players under investigation for sports betting, including Collins and Bulldog guards Mykell Robinson and Jalen Weaver.
Robinson and Weaver are no longer on the team’s roster.
According to the ESPN report, Weaver and Robinson placed daily fantasy bets on their own point totals.
Weaver told ESPN he bet the over on his points total in the Bulldogs’ game against New Mexico.
Robinson did not contribute to the report, but sources told ESPN Robinson also bet on his own stats and some of those wagers included the under.
Collins only bet on professional games.
The NCAA prohibits betting on any professional, intercollegiate or amateur sports competitions.
In Collins’ first game back, he dominated on the court accumulating 14 points, going 6-for-13 from the field and 2-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Collins and the ‘Dogs fell short to Boise State 66-61. They will play their last home game of the season on March 4 against San Jose State at the Save Mart Center.
