The Fresno State Learning Center offers individualized learning support
FRESNO, Calif. – As the semester is moves along and students are finding their groove, but some are realizing they may need additional support.
Hidden in the basement of the Fresno State Library, students will find a great resource — the Learning Center.

Ariana Sanz, a front desk assistant at the Learning Center, said there are a number of helpful resources available to students.
“Starting with tutoring, where we offer support for over six hundred courses, which is very awesome, I would say,” Sanz said.
The center also offers supplement instruction for classes with a high failure rate. The support resource uses different methods to help students retain information and has shown to help students improve a whole letter grade.
With academic success coaching students can meet one-on-one with a coach to learn about all the different campus resources available.
While working the font desk, Sanz takes note of students who regularly come to the center.
”It goes to show that students really do appreciate the help and they feel comfortable here, which is what we strive to provide for our students. A place where they feel comfortable to come seek help, whether it’s with their assignments, campus resources for just having a community where they feel comfortable studying and asking questions,” Sanz said.
Scheduling an appointment with the learning center can be done online.

Avery Ramirez, a chemistry tutor at the Learning Center, said the one-on-one coaching sessions are catered to each student’s individual learning needs.
”Usually starts off by me just asking ‘what do you need?’ ‘What is you’re best process of learning?’ ‘Like do you do best with example questions or just explanations?’ So it catered to you whatever you need to be tutored,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez said the Learning Center tutors want to see students succeed.

Lynee Sims, a math tutor, believes individual learning plans make a big difference in learning outcomes.
”That’s one of the pillars of our job actually. Whenever our students comes in, we try to remember their first name, their professors, whatever class they are taking. So then the next time they come in, we’re back where we were before,” Sims said.
The tutors at the learning center believe no student is the same and no session is the same. The learning center has people and programs to make sure every student succeeds.
The Learning Center is hosting an open house event to unveil its newly remodeled space on March 13 from 11 am to 1 pm. There will be free food, raffles and more.
