A Park For Everyone
By Marvin Rodriguez
FRESNO, CA — A 49-acre project has officially started construction. It will turn an undeveloped area in Southeast Fresno into one of the biggest public green spaces.
Located on South Peach, the project is progressing in multiple phases. Open green areas for local families, new playgrounds, and multipurpose sports fields will all be included in the initial portion. According to city officials, the park is part of a larger initiative to address the recreational space gap in Fresno, particularly in areas that have historically lacked funding and support.
For many locals, the new park represents long-overdue attention.
“That area has been abandoned for so long, when this has been a family community, so I think it’s really important to use that space for a park,” said Alexa Butler, a lifelong Southeast Fresno resident.

Others are simply excited for a safe place to enjoy the outdoors.
“I thought it was really cool that there’s going to be another space for people to go outside and enjoy themselves,” said Vanessa Taing, another Southeast Fresno resident.
Future phases could add walking paths, gardens, and more courts, but those plans will depend on funding. For now, construction crews are focused on completing Phase 1 by winter 2026.
Until then, residents can expect to see bulldozers, jackhammers, and fenced-off construction zones at the corner of South Peach Avenue and East Lorena Avenue — clear signs that after years of anticipation, Southeast Fresno is finally getting a park of its own.
