THE LAST PLAY? How Relationships Outlast the Game
FRESNO – After cementing a legacy, the real question becomes what still drives a coach to show up, push harder, and chase the next challenge.
Coach Brad Roznovsky has been coaching the varsity men’s basketball team for over a decade at San Joaquin Memorial High School.
Roznovsky has a successful resume with the Panthers, including developing NBA-level talent such as Jalen Green, and has won 3 valley championships, a state championship, and has the most wins in school history.
Panthers senior Parker Spees is grateful for what Coach Roz has taught him on and off the court over his four years on varsity.
“Off the court stuff, becoming a better man and on the court I’ve had the platform to be the best player I could be. I’ve made a lot of progression with my skills and talents but it’s a team environment where I’ve learned great habits that will serve me long after basketball.”
Spees looks to follow Roznovsky’s lead to hopefully end his Panthers career successfully, and that road starts Nov.19 against Bakersfield Christian, where former player Jalen Green will get his jersey retired.
Roznovsky enjoys all the success he’s had so far in his coaching career, but what he enjoys most about the job is what takes place off the court.
“I think the best thing about it is the relationships I build with the kids. Even after they graduate, talking to them, even getting invited to their weddings. Keeping that relationship after they graduate is probably one of the best things about that job.”
Although not confirmed, Roznovsky knows he’s on the backend of his coaching career, having already accomplished so much. But Roznovsky knows that after he retires, he will still be “Coach Roz” to many.
