Ahmad Ahmad makes the same 90-minute trip to Oakhurst four days a week.
For some, it may be a long drive, but for him, it’s something he feels blessed to do. As a Palestinian-American, Ahmad is grateful for his new life in the United States.
“I actually enjoy doing this kind of work,” said Ahmad. “Being able to meet people of all different backgrounds and make connections is what really makes me want to come to work.”
Ahmad and part of his family moved to the United States from the West Bank to pursue a higher education and to escape the war. He had an uncle killed because of the ongoing conflict.
Ahmad has had a family killed during the conflict.
“My uncle never participated in any violent protests, yet he was murdered,” Ahmad said. “Innocent people are in the middle of this war and people just push it under the rug.”
Ahmad still has family overseas and fears for their safety every day.
Even with the uncertainty for his people, he continues to embrace the community and show his compassion for others. Whether it’s local discounts or selling local artwork in his store, he tries to leave his mark on the community.
“He always has a smile on his face and greets me,” said Autumn Cacy. “He really does make this place feel warm and inviting.”
