Fresno State Library offers resources for finals

Finals week is right around the corner.

As students prepare for finals week, the Fresno State Library is also gearing up for a busy week.

“We’re definitely seeing more people, more questions that are more specifically research and not just Starbucks,” said Sam Hidde Tripp, research and maps librarian.

This finals week will be different from recent years.

Starting on Monday, Dec. 15, the library will be open 24 hours a day through Thursday.

This is the first time the library will remain open 24/7 since COVID.

“It’s warm, and safe and quiet,” said Janet Crum, dean of library services. “And that for a lot of folks is really all that they need.”

Crum advises students to take advantage of all the resources the library offers, even if they aren’t for schoolwork.

“I think there’s something in this library for everybody, and I hope you find the space that you need,” Crum said.

Aside from the standard tables and chairs for students to work at, the library also offers rooms for checkout that are specifically designed for various school projects.

From individual study rooms throughout the building to music and media workstations on the third floor, the library has something for everyone.

As this can be a stressful time for students, the library also offers outlets to destress.

“You can access information resources, you can access resources for fun,” Tripp said. “A lot of people don’t realize that we have video streaming, not just documentaries, but fun movies too like classics and fun blockbuster movies too.”

For the readers, there is also a section in the first floor just for popular books as well as graphic novels.

“College is stressful,” Crum said. “You need to be able to unwind. If you’re a reader or graphic novel fan, that’s a great place to go.”

While there are many resources in person, the library’s website has databases for research, a place for questions as well as the emails of librarians if students need to reach out.

The updated Fresno State library hours can be found on their website and the library will return to normal hours on Friday, Dec. 19.
